Production Designer Andy Deskin

This is what IMDB's Glossary has to say about Production Designer:
AKA: Production Design
An artist responsible for designing the overall visual appearance of a movie.
In the background, notice how the big blue drums already in the rooom were incorporated into the design.

In Andy Deskin's own words:
The Production Designer works with the Producers, Directors and the Director of
Photography to create an overall 'look' for the show. He/she coordinates and
advises on everything that goes in front of the camera including Locations, Set
Design, Props, Set Dressing, Wardrobe, Make up, Hair, Construction, Paint and
Special Effects.
This facilitates all departments in creating a cohesive "look
and feel' for the show.
For Blood Ties I filled a studio with sets.
I designed Henry's apartment, Vicki's office, the police station, the coroners examination
room and the alley set so that we could shoot night scenes dry and warm in the
studio in the daytime.

I addition there were numerous 'swing sets' that I
designed during the course of the season. These are sets that would only be used
for one or two shows and then torn down. Some examples would be the crypt (ep
3), the Spanish inquisition torture chamber (ep 7-8), Dr. Sagara's office, two
different psychic studios etc.
At the back of the studio was a 200 foot long
exterior street set of 1657 Paris that I designed for a previous series. We
altered this and used it on occasion for flashbacks such as the Hellfire Club in
episodes 1 and 2.

In addition, almost every location that we shot at would need
some changes and/or additions such as adding a wall, redecorating for the
character, painting a room or putting up signage.
Regarding the jewellery - although I discussed it with the Costume Designer or the
Property Master, I was not involved in acquiring or fabricating them. On occasion
I did design some specific pieces like the Illuminacion del Sol from episodes 7 and 8.
The Illuminacion del Sol
The Illumination del Sol is one of my favorite PROPS that I have designed.
We had three made: one that was flat and two that had folding, removable
arms. It is always best to make multiples of props on the chance that one is
damaged or lost. David Perun, Property Master, added the still mechanism for
distilling the blood.
There are hundreds of different specialist that build various props in
Vancouver. This item was fabricated by a jewelry maker that made metal molds of
the various parts. The construction department may build a prop if it is made of
wood but metalwork is usually sub-contracted out.
